The year 2010 ended with a total base of 200 million domain name registrations, 60% are gTLDs (generic top-level
domains like .com, .net, .org, etc.), the ones created in the early days of the Internet.
Generic TLDs growth stands at 9%. The Country Code TLD growth rate excluding China is a healthy 11.3%,
higher than .com showing that there is still significant growth in the ccTLD market.
The great news is web hosting industry is flourishing all over the world. Germany (.de) have more than 14
million domains registered; UK (.uk) more than 9 million; Netherlands (.nl) more than 4 million; Russia (.ru) over 3 million;
Brazil (.br), Italy (.it) and Poland (.pl) over 2 million each. Fourteen other countries have more than 1 million local domains registered.
